Completion and end dates are extended

Halifax Intermediaries has made changes across its home mover and first-time buyer, remortgage, product transfer and further advance ranges, effective on 3 November.

The lender has extended product completion and end dates. Those dates have also been extended across products for home movers and first-time buyers, remortgagors, and customers taking out a product transfer or further advance.

Barclays also confirmed rate reductions that day on a selection of residential purchase and remortgage products.

Halifax tracker is 3.99%; fixes are 4.78%

Trinity Financial product and communications director Aaron Strutt said Halifax was offering a 3.99% two-year tracker for home buyers with a 40% deposit and a £1,499 fee (Mortgage Solutions) (Mortgage Strategy). He said he was pretty sure Halifax had pulled the rate but was offering it again.

Both fixed rates carry a £999 fee, and borrowers need a 40% deposit to qualify. Strutt said some lenders were still offering fixed rates below 5%, but there were not many to choose from.

Barclays still had a 3.99% base-rate tracker available to Premier customers earning over £75,000. The product carried a £999 fee and required a 40% deposit.

Rates, deposits and fees to check

  • Check whether the relevant Halifax product is for a home mover, first-time buyer, remortgage, product transfer or further advance.
  • Check whether the product has a two-, three- or five-year fixed term, or whether it is a two-year tracker.
  • Check the deposit, fee and customer-account conditions attached to the available tracker or fixed rate.
  • Check the extended product completion and end dates against the borrower’s preferred move or refinancing timetable.

Strutt said Halifax was again offering the two-year tracker and had two-year and five-year fixes at 4.78% for eligible premier current account holders.

On the wider tracker market, Strutt said it would be interesting to see what the Bank of England’s MPC does on Thursday. He added that even if the base rate went up, the best trackers would still undercut fixed rates by quite a big margin.
